I have been photographing Shelly for a while now, I think we might have first met through the respective wedding sides of our business, or through Lisa Johnson’s membership, but it’s safe to say it’s been a couple of years now and so we’ve had a few brand shoots as part of The Seasonal Edit as well as a couple of mini shoots. From the historic cobbled streets in Malta to her cake studio and dancing through the various streets of London!
I love that I get to be part of the brand evolution that so many of my clients go through, it’s a real honour and privilege to photograph each and every person I work with, but even more so when they come back and commit to several shoots. The Seasonal Edit was born out of my desire to be a key part of someone’s brand – see it’s not just about creating pretty pictures, but about telling brand stories (hence AKP Branding Stories® being my business name)
In the time that I’ve known Shelly, her brand and business have just bloomed – she’s a true entrepreneur, seeing opportunities and seizing each of those opportunities whenever they arise. From creating gorgeous wedding cakes, to helping and coaching other cake makers to build a sustainable and resilient business, Shelly bought out a range of planners and tools to further support her clients, especially those in the early part of their business when it’s hard to know what to start with. Shelly now provides strategic guidance and coaching to those outside of the cake and wedding business, with the launch of Shelly Shulman Strategy. It’s so exciting to see it all grow, and for our shoots to have captured all aspects of this journey.
So let’s see what Shelly and I have been up to, as well as getting to know her a bit more 🙂
“My biggest fear was that I wouldn’t like the photos. I’ve had photos taken before and I just felt uncomfortable and that showed in the pics. Luckily it didn’t come true. Amanda put me totally at ease and for the first time ever I actually like every single photo.
As well as spending time with Amanda in general which is always lots of fun, my favourite part is how much Amanda focused on making sure I look my best. That attention to detail. Amanda really cares that you feel comfortable and gets the very best out of you.”
What first got you into your field?
I’d been running my previous business for 15 years, and then the pandemic hit. Luckily I already had other things in place and with my advice was able to help other business owners navigate the lockdown and they went on to be more successful than the were previously. That’s when I realised that strategy was my thing!
What’s your favourite thing about the work that you do?
The best thing for me is when clients share the results they get. Yes, of course, I have given them the strategy but they are the ones that took action, and in most cases stretched themselves out of their comfort zone.
What is a ‘reality’ of your work that other people don’t realise?
That it’s not just playing on Facebook. And that I still spend a lot of time and money investing in my own personal development so that I can offer my clients the best possible support.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? (can be on anything!)
That you can’t always control what happens to you but you can control your reaction to it.
“…Do it – you won’t regret it. Amanda really wants to get the best from you and makes you feel so comfortable. I’ve had 6 shoots with Amanda and out of the 700+ photos I have that she has taken there is not a single one I don’t like or won’t use.
Having professional brand images really elevated my business and took it to another level. It shows that you care enough to invest in yourself and clients respect that.”
What’s your cocktail / mocktail of choice?
And where can people find you?

It’s been awesome for me to look back on all these photos, an insight into the variety of shoots that can be created on The Seasonal Edit®. If this is the sort of brand photography coverage you want and need for your business – to know that you’re never going to run out of images, that you’ll have this treasure chest of on brand photos that work for your growing and evolving brand, then I’d love to chat further.
The Seasonal Edit is only open to a small number of clients at a time, I want to be able to dedicate the time and energy to each of my clients fully so that we can create the most incredible brand shoots together, and it’s important we are absolutely the perfect fit for each other. So why not get in touch and let’s see where we can take this!
Until next time,
