Hello!
Today’s shoot story is a throwback to July last year (yes I know I’m behind with blogging!) when I photographed Neo as part of Nicola Rowley’s PR Mini Shoots, it was the end of a long but fabulous day, and Neo and her gorgeous and full of life daughter came bounding into the shoot house with all the amazing energy needed!
What first got you into your field?
Uhuru Botanicals began when I was searching for a natural plant-based solution to my daughter Lulu’s eczema. Unable to find anything suitable, I began making a body balm using the purest shea butter as the base ingredient and combining with natural botanicals oils, which nourish, heal and soothe the skin. The balm worked well for her skin. I then decided to expand my product range. I now produce eight skincare products and one hair butter, which is my best seller.
What’s your favourite thing about the work that you do?
Receiving positive feedback from a customer about how my products have improved their skin, hair and confidence in themselves.
“My biggest fear was whether I will get beautiful photos at the end of the shoot.
I loved all the photos from the shoot, they were clear and natural. You captured Lulu and my skin tone very well. That was was very important to me. I did not want the photos to have too many filters.
I enjoyed the part where Lulu and I were sitting on the couch. I like that you made us feel comfortable and that you encouraged us to be ourselves. We both felt free and forgot that you were taking photos.
You take beautiful photos. Best brand photographer I have met so far.
I have tried using many photographers, who can capture my brand story, but I struggled to find one. You managed to do that in a 30min mini shoot. Impressed!”
What is a ‘reality’ of your work that other people don’t realise?
I am a one man band:
- I source the ingredients and jars
- Make the product
- Label and package the products
- Market the brand
- Sell
- Post the products
- Send out emails to customers to make sure that they have received their products.
- The list goes on.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? (can be on anything!)
Never pop your pimples. Advice from my mother when I was a teenager and that advice helped me to not have black spots on my face.
What’s your cocktail / mocktail of choice?
Mojito
