London Brand Session with Nutritionist Janet Haagensen

Today’s client interview is with the fabulous Janet and I have to say we not only had so much fun on her London brand shoot (she has so many amazing stories to tell) but as a nutritionist, she also bought along some delicious props – including a completely dairy-free and gluten-free chocolate cake that both Pipa and I could eat at the end of the session.

Who said that working with nutritionists was all about the salad shot!

 

What first got you into your field?

I began doing some online courses with Shaw Academy which were very informative. I started to understand better what good nutrition meant. Then I retired from work and found a gap in my life. I found nutrition training and struggled with a science-based course which I failed – but had an introduction to the table of elements that I had never seen before! So undaunted I found the College of Naturopathic Medicine and loved every minute. I qualified in September 2021 as a Nutritional Therapist.

 

What’s your favourite thing about the work that you do?

For clients who want to make a change, hearing how they are doing and the effects this has on the whole family when everyone is onboard.

 

What is a ‘reality’ of your work that other people don’t realise?

That the preparation for the plans they are given is enormous sometimes. A look of research, advice and verification has to go through each individual set of paperwork the client received.

 

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? (can be on anything!) 

There is more to learn from failure than success.

 

What’s your cocktail / mocktail of choice?

Sorry, I like a good glass of Shiraz!

“I worried that the pictures would make me look glazed and or wooden, that we wouldn’t get well, you wouldn’t like me. Nothing could be further than the truth. I started by meeting the stylist who was absolutely great then Amanda arrived for the shoot. At the end of the shoot we all sat down together to eat the food that I had prepared – including my husband (who had returned to take me home) and the owner of the property that was used for the shoot. It was a highly memorable day with beautiful pictures resulting.

 

My favourite bit was standing at the work counter with the food and salad servers at the beginning, but I loved the makeup and have tried to copy it, and the venue it was beautiful.

 

Amanda knows how to get the best out of you, she has a way of using the camera in a sympathetic but highly proficient manner.  The pictures have been admired by everyone who has seen them. My business is not up and running yet but my website has been published and I will be advertising soon.”
